BIOGRAPHY
Chrystal Tam (she/her) is a performer and creator originally from Ottawa, Ontario. As a second-generation Chinese-Canadian with deep roots in her cultural heritage, she continues on a lifelong journey of navigating the dynamic interplay between her Canadian upbringing and the vibrant tapestry of her connections to Hong Kong. These experiences have served as a rich source of inspiration, profoundly shaping the lens through which Chrystal approaches her artistic practice. Drawing from the diverse cultural landscapes of both countries, she finds herself blending elements from each, weaving together a narrative that reflects the complexity of her identity.
Chrystal has trained in multiple dance genres and earned a BFA in Performance Dance from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University). During her time at TMU, she collaborated with various choreographers, including Andrea Nann, Angela Blumberg, Alyssa Martin/Rock Bottom Movement, and Tara Pillon. In 2021, Chrystal was selected to work with Artistic Director Natasha Powell of Holla Jazz in a residency partnered with Fall For Dance North and Arts Orillia. She also participated in the 2023 DaCo residency curated by Angela Blumberg, collaborating with choreographer and filmmaker Kayla Jeanson. In 2024, Chrystal performed with CORPUS Dance Projects in Transhumance at the JUNIOR 2024 Festival. Additionally, she has appeared in concerts and music videos for renowned Hong Kong artists including Andy Lau, Sammi Cheng, and Hins Cheung.
